Augmenting Elma-Mektron’s comprehensive ‘one-stop-shop’ service to industry is the company’s impressive integration capabilities.

Under the auspices of BS EN ISO9001:2000, the customer’s choice of hardware and software can be fully integrated and dynamically exercised to a mutually agreed Factory Acceptance Test (F.A.T.) schedule.

Elma-Mektron continually receives written plaudits for its extensive integration activities and performance achievements.

Mass Storage Drive Devices
Elma-Mektron can provide mass storage packaging solutions suitable for all bus-based applications and operating environments, whether commercial, industrial or rugged-military. Supply and integration of mass storage devices, inclusive of cabling / interconnection schemes, is standard practice.

The development and choice of mass storage devices for use in the more environmentally challenging applications and hostile environments is a matter for careful consideration. Elma-Mektron has a wealth of experience in this field and can offer proven high integrity mass storage solutions, tailored to each specific application. Use of Elma-Mektron’s tried and tested techniques can mitigate the unwanted effects of adverse shock / vibration and climatic conditions, enabling the use of cost effective, commercial-grade devices. A host of solutions are available whether, embedded, hot-swap shuttlised or remote.

Active Board Hardware
Elma-Mektron frequently carry out on behalf of our customers, full integration of active hardware boards and modules. The company can source the customer's choice of active hardware or handle it on a free-issue basis. Our dedicated, high investment production and goods handling facility incorporates full ESD (electrostatic discharge) measures.

We have a wealth of experience in designing and integrating equipment that scopes virtually all the popular bus architectures including VME, VXI, CompactPCI, PCI/ISA, PC/104, MBII and SCSI. Our integration work also involves proprietary and non bus-based architectures.

Operating System
In addition to integrating and testing the system’s active hardware the company has a wealth of experience involving the installation of industry’s most popular real time operating systems.

I/O Wiring and Interconnect Schemes
Elma-Mektron offer a comprehensive and cost-effective wiring and interconnection integration service from prototype through to production quantities. Backed up by numerous customer plaudits and unsolicited written references you can be assured of the highest possible workmanship and documentation standards. Utilising standard equipment wire, limited toxicity or other special military-grade cables in conjunction with commercial or military style connectors, Elma-Mektron can provide a true ‘turnkey’ solution from wiring list compilation, flexi-circuit and transition card design through to 100% continuity and short circuit ATE testing.

AC / DC wiring is to defence standards, DEF.STAN 61-12 and 66-31, and utilises limited toxicity cable (DEF.STAN 61-12 and 66-31). Various I/O options are available including rear enclosure to tray DPX style connectors.

Intelligent Climatic Control
The Climatic Controller Module has been developed by Elma-Mektron to enable the use of commercial electronic hardware, typically operating over the range of 0°C to +50°C, in otherwise extreme temperature environments. This innovative and compact device has helped considerably with the deployment of COTS hardware in military and associated applications.

Environmental / Type Approval Testing
Many of Elma-Mektron’s system enclosure designs have been through extensive ‘Type Approval Testing’. Accordingly, valuable analogy / read-across data is available.

However, particularly for custom applications Elma-Mektron are frequently contracted by our customers to project manage the full formal qualification process in addition to supplying the system enclosure. For this the company works with a number of NAMAS accredited test houses and operates an ‘open-book’ policy with regards to commercial matters in this respect.

Prior to carrying out formal qualification testing the company is able to undertake a high level of in-house pre-compliance/confidence testing as an intrinsic part of its risk management process.

Our in-house pre-compliance/confidence testing capabilities include:

EMC Testing
Elma-Mektron’s vast system enclosure and hardware integration experience coupled with an extensive involvement in major international programmes has required the company to perform exacting EMC integrity testing. Importantly, the wealth of test history available represents fully hardware / software configured solutions and is therefore truly representative and hence far more meaningful than just ‘screening effectiveness’ figures, as typically quoted.

Accordingly, every Elma-Mektron solution is designed from day one in accordance with proven good EMC practice. For example Elma-Mektron has world-wide patent protection for its innovative ‘Crush-Fold’ technology, a process that provides a cost effective, high strength, superior EMC seal with minimal fastener count. The ‘Crush-Fold’ is now incorporated in many of Elma-Mektron’s commercial and military grade enclosures supplied to customers who demand the highest standards of EMI shielding.

Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
A comprehensive factory acceptance test scheduled is developed for all equipment in close cooperation and agreement with the customer. We always endeavour where possible to ensure the operational integrity of virtually every facet of the equipment supplied and installed by the company.

Quality and Test
All of Elma-Mektron's standard and custom system enclosures undergo a comprehensive test and inspection schedule covering every facet of system build, function and safety, guaranteeing complete product integrity. The company has full BS EN ISO 9001:2000 accreditation and is a recognised authority on EMC with its own in-house pre-compliance EMC test chamber. A full test/inspection report, 'C of C' and 'D of C' (where relevant) comes with every system.

Warranty
All of our system enclosures are covered by a 12-month warranty from the date of shipment. The warranty covers all mechanical items, backplanes, power supplies, cooling fans, components, cables, connectors and switches but does not cover faults attributed to misuse.
